Fresh off a .500 finish in the season-opening Marble Falls Tournament, the Leh-man softball team got a complete game performance from junior Feliziana Torres in an 11-3 win over Navarro at Lobo Softball Field.
Torres also starred at the plate, tripling in three runs in the bottom of the first inning to stake Lehman to an early 4-0 lead after BriAnna Garza and Desiree Cruz each led off the inning with a pair of singles and Liz Valderaz walked to load the bases.
The Lady Lobos lead increased quickly to 8-0 in the bottom of the second inning when speedster Monique Johnson led off the second with a double to the wall and Cruz, Valdaraz and Sabrina Martinez each added run scoring singles.
Navarro took advantage of a couple of defensive miscues by the Lehman defense to pull within 8-2 in the top of the fourth inning as Ashlynn Tovar doubled in both Samantha Nichols and Casey Sturm.
But Cruz blasted a two-run double down the line in the bottom of the fourth frame to end any hopes Navarro had of getting any closer to the Lobos (4-3).
“We really hit the ball well and Torres did a great job on the mound tonight,” Lehman head coach Nicole Herrera said. “This is great way for us to start off our home season.”
With only seven games under their belt so far, the Lobos have already equaled the amount of wins from last year and are primed to surpass the number of wins in school history at some point this season.
“The girls have set a lot of goals this season and want to be very competitive in our district,” Herrera said. “Our seniors have really been leading the way for our underclassmen. I’m hoping they will continue to work hard.”
Valdaraz and Cruz each had two hits for Lehman, who will play at the Taylor Tournament this weekend.
