What is new on the horizon here in Kyle, Texas? The television stations and newspapers in Central Texas have recently updated their coverage of Kyle but we want to shine a little light on a few more items. We keep them on top of their game with all the new projects in our community. Some of the things you might have missed are the bright red Target signs that went up this last Friday. Seton Hospital-Hays also is nearing completion of the largest hospital in Hays County. Seton will have a lighting ceremony on July 1 at 6 p.m. The doors will be open at the start of October this year with a medical office tower being built and opening early next spring.

While we are excited about Walgreens, Jack-in-the-Box, United Heritage Credit Union, Discount Tire and many others opening soon at 1626 and IH 35, we are also excited about our Old Town area of Kyle. Shipley’s is now open and when you walk in the door, the aroma of fresh donuts is very enticing! The Texas Pie Company continues to draw huge crowds everyday with people traveling from all across the state for a taste. Manna from Heaven has our only full salad bar buffet with a huge selection and Luvianos has great music and food and just recently celebrated two years in business.

Railroad BBQ and Milt’s BBQ continue to offer great food and live music almost every weekend. Old Town Gift Emporium is seeing a rise in customers exploring the store that now boasts 30 vendors. One great little secret in the downtown area is that Bordeaux’s fine dining restaurant is now open for lunch Tuesday-Friday. Now you don’t have to leave Kyle to get fine dining and a great atmosphere.

On June 23 the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau will be holding our monthly luncheon at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center at the corner of 1626 and Kohlers Crossing from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. We will be featuring Gary R. Gunter B.S., M.S. Entrepreneur & Former Owner of Lone Star Overnight.

The cost for the luncheon is $10 for members pre-sale and $15 at the door. Future members can add $5 to the cost per category. Please RSVP at 512-268-4220 by June 20.

We also want to send out a job well done to Kerry Urbanowitz, Director of the City of Kyle’s Parks and Recreation Department and his staff for their work on the monthly Kyle Market Days. The farmers had lines forming early as they sold all types of fresh produce, farm eggs, organic steaks and other goodies. If you haven’t been to a Market Days yet this year, it really is a great family experience. New this year, we have expanded the music lineup and now the first Saturday has two great musicians playing atop the deck of the Old Train Depot. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the music. This past Market Days featured Hugh Fadal (solo) and Los Flames entertaining the crowd and rocking the morning away. The next Kyle Market Days will take place July 4 on Front Street and will feature a free concert by Texas Blind Salamanders and Pee Wee & The Way ‘Tis.
