Kyle man charged with beating wife
Sidonio Borrego, of Kyle, is slated to be at the 22nd District Court in San Marcos on Feb. 11 after he was arrested Aug. 16 for allegedly assaulting his wife as she tried to call 911.
The 46-year-old was charged on a second degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence and a class A misdemeanor charge of interfering with an emergency call, authorities said.
A hearing for the latter charge is slated for Thursday at County Court at Law #1, also in San Marcos, according to court records.
The incident occurred at the couple’s home on Windy Hollow Road in Goforth Village east of Kyle.
Borrego’s wife told investigators that they had been having marriage trouble, and said she left the house for a few hours. When she returned that evening around 6 p.m., she said he had been drinking and was intoxicated.
Fearing for her safety, she tried to call police, but Borrego took the phone away from her, the woman told investigators. She retreated into the bedroom and tried to call her sister from a phone there.
According to the sheriff’s report, Borrego came into the bedroom carrying a pistol, grabbed the phone away from his wife and hit her in the back of her head with his hand.
The woman ran out of the house and fled to the HEB grocery store in Kyle, where she called 911.
Borrego was arrested that evening and sent to Hays County Jail on bonds adding up to $15,000. He has since been released.
