Austin Community College President Stephen Kinslow and Seton Medical Center Hays executive Herb Dyer will headline the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon.
The event is scheduled 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Plum Creek Golf Course, 750 Kohler’s Crossing in Kyle.
Kinslow will talk about the role of community colleges in community and personal improvement. A group of locals organized under the name ACC North Hays Steering Committee are gathering signatures asking for annexation into the Austin Community College District. Voters in an area that follows the boundaries of Hays CISD are expected to vote on the initiative in November.
“ACC provides quality, convenient education at an affordable price – not only to new college students, but also to members of the workforce who need cutting-edge skills to move ahead,” says Dr. Kinslow. “The college works closely with community and business leaders to guide the growth of our programs, in order to best match the needs of residents and the local workforce.”
Dyer, the hospital’s vice president and chief operating officer, will talk about the county’s newest and largest hospital in Kyle. According to advance remarks quoted by the chamber in a press release, he is also expected to deliver what sounds like an endorsement of the ACC effort.
“We also very much appreciate the linkage between being healthy, staying in school and getting a good education. We welcome the opportunity to continue the strong partnership we enjoy with ACC in Austin here in Hays County,” Dyer said in the statement.
Kyle Chamber Executive Director Ray Hernandez said, “The Kyle Chamber recognizes that the pathway to economic prosperity is fostered by access to higher education. Partnerships with industry leaders such as Seton Family of Hospitals and Austin Community College are a key component to creating a more educated workforce.”
