A former U.S. soldier has announced his candidacy for the Kyle City Council District 5 race that will be hashed out in a Feb. 13 special election.
John G. Simmang, 32, who lives in the Hometown Kyle subdivision, wants to help prioritize the city’s needs, such as the library, Burleson Road construction, police station and recreation center, he said.
Simmang, a father of two and former Army Staff Sergeant, resigned from a job as a part time mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in December. He is a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in San Antonio, he said.
“Did you know that our Country was founded by Great Master Masons like myself,” Simmang wrote in a press release Tuesday. “This is just the beginning of my rise. I plan to run for Mayor, then the sky is the limit. Probably run for President in the near future.”
He hopes that the council and city staff will be able to find “creative ways” to fund these projects without being a tax burden to residents.
“We’re already in enough debt,” he said. “We need to find some creative ways to get these things done rather than tax people.”
He is also a member of the First Baptist Church in Kyle.
