Stopped by City Hall this morning to check on the progress of early voting.  The elections officials said that turnout had been light but steady. Pretty typical of early voting and, from what I understand, actually promising for Special Elections. Voting continues through Friday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week (with Tuesday being late night at the polls) and election day the following Saturday, February 13. We will be selecting our mayor and two council members so this is significant.

Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago I was googling the candidates just to see what popped up and when I typed in John Simmang it led me to a tattoo website on which he had left a post and I wrongly concluded that he was a tattooist (it’s a word, I looked it up). My apologies for the misinformation. It did seem like an odd coincidence that two of the four candidates for council were tattoo artists but I figured that stranger things have happened. Nevertheless, you need to read up on the candidates, take note of yard sign locations and talk to your friends and neighbors and take advantage of this opportunity to become involved in the city in which you have chosen to live.  Take five minutes and go downtown and vote.

On a lighter note, it looks like things are heating up over at Parks and Rec. The winter season of the Adult Kickball League closes out this weekend with two solid days of riveting elimination tournaments with the nail-biting championship game being played Sunday night. But don’t despair. Spring kickball registration is now in progress and you have the option (well, half of you have the option) of playing in either the Women’s League or the Co-ed League. All twelve games are at Gregg-Clarke and for $40 bucks, your registration guarantees you a team trophy and a t-shirt (and a misty trip backward to those dusty elementary school playgrounds of your childhood). It’s rumored to be a blast.
