The Lehman Boys soccer team got back on the winning track with a 3-1 road romp over Wimberley Friday night.

The Lobos (4-7-1 in 51 4-A) trailed 1-0 at the break before pouring in three late goals.

Lehman’s Oscar Prado came off the bench to score two goals including the go-ahead score with less than ten minutes left in the contest.

“They played us tough in the first half as they did last time we played them,” Lehman head coach Jay Sansom said. “But we had a couple of opportunities to score but couldn’t take advantage of them. We just couldn’t put the ball in the net. Oscar came in and played well for us, he was the difference tonight.”

Prado was forced into action after junior starter Oscar Martinez went down with a serious knee injury and was carried off the field on a stretcher after colliding with a Wimberley player during an offensive run.

It was the second full-time Lehman starter lost due to a knee injury this season with fellow junior Oscar Garcia suffering a similar fate only six games into Lehman’s season.

Both players are expected to be back at full strength  for their senior campaigns next season.

“I think both of those guys will go through rehab and be ready to go next year,” Sansom said. “They both play a lot of soccer so I’m sure they’ll be anxious to get started. They will be the leaders of our team next season.”

The Texans had opened the scoring midway through the first half with a shot that barely squeezed inside the left corner of the net to spark Wimberley to a 1-0 halftime lead.

A pair of road games at Canyon Lake and Seguin remain for a Lehman team that will graduate ten seniors in May. Lehman’s chances for another trip to the playoffs ended as they were mathematically eliminated from contention a week ago.

“We want to give our seniors an opportunity to go out on a positive note,” said Sansom. “While they are certainly disappointed that they won’t be in the playoffs for the first time in their high school careers, they certainly can look back on their days here at Lehman with a lot of pride and fond memories as they move ahead with their athletic careers.”
