About 25 firefighters from the Austin, Buda and Manchaca fire departments tackled a home blaze Monday afternoon at the 1700 block of Brown Bear Lane in Manchaca, just south of FM 1626 and Brodie Lane. A sleeping woman (right) awoke in time to escape safely before flames collapsed the roof of the home. Fire crews were called out around 2:15 p.m. and hours later the home was still smoldering. Buda firefighters brought two water tankers since the neighborhood had no fire hydrants. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
