In the shallow waters surrounding Lajas Reef at the mouth of the Chagres River in Panama, a team of archaeologists — including members from Texas State University — has recovered cannons from the site where infamous privateer Captain Henry Morgan’s ships wrecked in 1671 while carrying Morgan and his men to raid Panama City.

San Marcos police arrested a 25-year old San Marcos man for crashing his car into the lobby of Bank of America in San Marcos and fleeing from police after he left the scene early Friday morning.
Interstate 35′s main traffic lanes, in both directions, will be closed at Ben White Boulevard in Austin this weekend, starting at 10 p.m. Friday.
State Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston and the vice chairman of the Senate Education Committee, called the 58,575 people employed in nonteaching support positions by Texas public schools —”your math department supervisors, your curriculum experts” — a “soft target” for budget cutters. Those positions “must be seriously addressed,” he said. “That number is not based on reality.”
