School accountability ratings are markedly lower across the state — with far fewer schools achieving the highest ratings than last year. Instead, most schools fall in the middle “acceptable” category. Many districts find themselves with lower ratings even though their student achievement has remained the same.

Michael Williams might be on the move again. The Republican congressional candidate and former Texas railroad commissioner is considering a switch from a new Tarrant County-centered congressional district to one that starts on that county’s southern edge and runs all the way south of Austin into Hays County.
The Texas Education Agency on Friday released school accountability ratings based on student performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. Three Hays CISD schools earned “Exemplary” ratings and seven were rated “Recognized.”

A state appellate court on Wednesday dismissed a Kyle dentist’s lawsuit challenging the validity of last November’s election in which Hays CISD voters opted to join the Austin Community College taxing district.
