Ector Gonzalez, 65, of Kyle passed away on August 8, 2011. He was born on February 6, 1945 in Dilley, Texas. Ector served honestly and faithfully in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years and traveled with his family to many parts of the world. He also devoted 21 years of service to the University of Texas and was considered by most a die-hard Longhorn fan.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, outdoor activities and large family gatherings. Ector touched the lives of many people with his laughter, smile and generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor even during his sickness and difficult times.
He will forever be remembered by his devoted brothers Abel Gonzalez, Vidal Gonzalez, Johnny Gonzalez and loving sisters Amalia Gonzalez, Gloria Gonzalez, Alicia Gonzalez-Gomez, Sylvia Gonzalez-Salinas and Rita Gonzalez-Weise.
He is survived by his children, Margaret Gonzalez-Zapata, Bobbie Gonzalez, Tina Gonzalez-Gutierrez, E.J. Gonzalez II and Jedidiah Gonzalez; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and other family members and friends.
His wife, Mary Lou Gonzalez, and parents, Juan Gonzalez and Demetria Gonzalez preceded him in death.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Kyle. Interment to follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
Pallbearers will be Ector Gonzalez II, Richard Zapata Jr., Jose Gutierrez, Benny Marmolejo, Jedidiah Gonzalez and Joseph Gonzalez.
