The Kyle Police Department is currently accepting applications for its first ever Kyle Citizens Police Academy. In the 8-week program, participants will learn a variety of policing duties, such as crime scene investigation, patrol operations, 911 center operations, crime prevention strategies, traffic enforcement, and an overview of the department’s specialty units and administration.
The program also gives participants the opportunity for a ride along in a patrol car and to shoot police-issued weapons at a gun range. Graduates will work closely with the department in future events and operations, including possible searches for missing persons and setting up neighborhood watches.
The inaugural academy class is slated to begin March 13 and will meet every Tuesday. A background check and criminal history check will be required, and candidates must be at least 18 years old. An application can be found at www.cityofkyle.com. For more information, contact Sgt. Tracy Vrana at 512-268-0859 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
