District bands take UIL Sweepstakes

Hays High School Wind Ensemble
The Hays High School Band Program’s Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Tony Gibbs, earned a 2012 Sweepstakes Trophy in the UIL 4A Concert and Sight-Reading Contest held at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center April 12-13. The performance included “The Mad Major” by Kenneth Alford, “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Grainger, and “Armenian Dances” by Alfred Reed.  The band earned all first division ratings.

 

 

Lehman High School Wind Ensemble
The Lehman High School Band’s Wind Ensemble rolled to a Sweepstakes showing in the 2012 UIL Division 4A Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. Held at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center, the Lobos ensemble is directed by Joey Lucita.

 

 

Lobo Concert Band
Setting the early pace for two days of musical excellence, the Lehman High School Concert Band scored its historic first-ever Sweepstakes win in the annual UIL Concert and Sight-Reading competition held recently at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center. Directed by Johnnie Green, the Lobos received a three-judge score of 1-2-1 for a final first division in Concert, then pulled a unanimous three-judge decision of 1’s in Sight-Reading.
