STAFF REPORT
Kyle animal control officer Briana Brecher, above left, and police officer Jason Dibble ruffled a guinea hen’s feathers on Tuesday afternoon as they chased the bird from the parking lot of McDonald’s, on Interstate 35 near FM 1626, to the front entrance of the Target store about 400 feet away. Brecher caught the domesticated bird in a rope net as a crowd of onlookers cheered. She believed the guinea was abandoned, saying someone also dumped a chicken recently at the Chick-fil-A next door. Farmers and landowners tout guineas as a “watch dog” for their loud, harsh, cry and pugnacious disposition when anything unusual happens. They also devour insects and ticks.
Correction: An earlier version of this story gave the incorrect date of the guinea’s capture.
