Buda Area Chamber of Commerce President Terry Capps has submitted his resignation to the job he’s held since March 1. He said he plans to remain on board until a replacement has been found.
Capps, a retired pilot and former chamber board president, said he wasn’t the right man for the task.
“I’m a workaholic and enjoyed the job, and it’s been a wonderfully challenging experience, but I feel like due to my lack of some leadership, management and social skills, I was unable to move the Chamber forward consistent with the desires of the development board.”
The development board is an executive committee that aims to improve the board’s policies, operations and administration and serves under the board of directors, Capps said.
Chamber development board chairman Marc Goebler said he didn’t know why Capps resigned and disagreed that it was because of Capps’ leadership or social skills.
“That’s not my feeling at all,” Goebler said, declining to comment further.
Capps replaced President Dick Schneider, who retired at the end of February after holding the post for 11 years.
“I was flattered the people on the board wanted me to step in for Dick,” he said. “On a positive note, this office is very, very, very administratively stronger with the solid footing of policy, procedures and banking practices in place. A successor would go in and find this place easy to assimilate to.”
