Buda Library summer readers logged 425,882 minutes of reading over the past two months. Pre-readers and young readers turned in 14,187 book titles. The nearly 300 participants turned in 1,045 reading logs. For each log returned, the readers earned raffle tickets for prizes and give-aways donated by local sponsors. At the award ceremony last week, Gavin Hanz, 5, of Buda, (top) who read 550 books, won a soccer ball and Lego set. Reighan Antonie, 6, (bottom) also of Buda, read 358 books. Mom Vanessa Antonie said Reighan has tried every year since she was two to win the big animal from Wells Fargo. This year, Reighan put every raffle ticket into the box for the oversized stuffed animal—a fluffy white pony with pink eyes. Reighan’s own eyes lit up when her name was called as the winner. She held on tight around his neck as she carried him back to her family. But Reighan eased up enough to let little sister Eryn, 1, take a ride with her. (Photos by Kim Hilsenbeck)
