What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Uhland was filled from wall to wall by people from many surrounding towns and communities to hear the now world-renown Steinway artisan, Don Irwin, bringing his innovative and exciting music. Telling about his life and playing wonderful music made for a very inspiring time, which was well received, judging by the laughter and applause. Members of St. John’s served punch and cookies during intermission time and visited with Mr. Irwin and friends. Thanks to John and Susie Carter for bringing him back for a repeat performance.
Members of St. John’s Women’s Guild spent Saturday afternoon preparing for the Harvest Festival to be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 starting at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Uhland Community Center, 15 N. Old Spanish Trail. Turkey and all the trimmings will be served starting at 11 a.m. There also will be a bake sale, country store, cakewalk, games, and arts and crafts. For booth space, call Vickie Schawe at (512) 398-6622. The drawing will be held at 2:45 p.m. The items include a handmade queen size quilt and $100 cash donated by the Women’s Guild, $129 value meat package donated by Bon Ton Meat Market, box of cold sausage donated by Chisholm Trail Bar-B-Que, and there are even more items.
Family meals are always fun. I was included in one at the Dennis and Kim Heideman home last week. Homegrown vegetables and grilled steaks were enjoyed. Good to see Kassie hobbling along after a rattlesnake bit her on her ankle while attending her dogs. Don’t know if they killed the one that bit Kassie but they did get one a day or so later. Several reports of sightings and/or killings have been reported. Be on the lookout and be careful.
Get-well wishes and prayers are sent to Ed Daugherty, who has begun taking treatments, and to Kenneth Schnautz, who is recovering from surgery. Glad to report that Ellie Schawe is back to good health.
Coming to visit with Oma on Saturday morning was Cooper Moore. He came just in time to help carry supplies and stuff to the car. Thanks, Cooper, for the help and the visit.
