The weather was just right to help make the Harvest Festival a success. A large crowd of friends and neighbors from surrounding neighborhoods came to enjoy the turkey and dressing meal, purchase homemade bread, cakes and cookies, plants and other items from the country store and vendors that were set up in the Community Center; and also, folks enjoyed various games. The best was the fellowship and greetings of friends and even relatives. Members of St. John not only worked hard, but also enjoyed the comradeship while doing their jobs. Thanks to all who worked, donated and planned the event and to those who attended. Winners of the drawings are as follows: quilt, J. Gill; $124 Bon Ton Meat Package, Debbie Schawe; $100 donated by St. John Women’s Guild, Rosalina Pena; $50 gift card donated by HEB, Jack Powell; box of cold sausage donated by Chisholm Trail Bar-B-Que, Alton Petrosky; Sports Pack (two chairs, 16 qt. ice chest and flashlight) donated by Guadalupe Gas Co., Laura Wiede. Again, thanks to all who donated.
Remember that the Women’s Guild of St. John meets at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 13. Please bring a dish.
Also St. John Men’s Group meets at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 to discuss the plans for the car show at Cabela’s on Oct. 20.
At 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, the installation service for Pastor David Goeke will be held at St. John. Regular church service will be at 10:30 a.m.
It was fun to watch the freshmen football team of Hays High play the Lehman team recently. Great grandson, Raney Moore plays for Hays (“good job”) and the next week great-grand daughter, Hanna Heideman, played volleyball with the San Marcos Panthers against the Hill Country team. San Marcos Panthers won three out of five. Also a “good job.” Thanks Debbie and Mike Moore and Dennis and Kim Heideman for hauling this old “Oma” around.
I was just thinking!
What would Columbus think about America if, after 520 years, he could see the changes during those years?
