Hays County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy graduates 23

The more than 500 alumni of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy now have 23 more graduates to add to their ranks. The Citizens Academy has been conducted for 14 years, with two classes each year. The 13-week course consists of about 45 hours of instruction. Classes are taught by Hays County Sheriff’s deputies, correction officers, detectives, emergency communication officers and officers from the San Marcos Police Department. Students learn about aspects of the law enforcement profession and get to see life from the perspective of a law enforcement officer.  Participants get to observe a SWAT team exercise, participate in emergency vehicle operations and have a chance to shoot firearms with deputies. The next Hays County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy is scheduled to begin in February in San Marcos. (Courtesy Photo)
