Suspect caught in deadly arson case

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a Dripping Springs fire where a body was found inside of a burned home.

Joseph Alan Carnahan was charged with Arson, a First Degree Felony, in reference to the structure fire at 31305 Ranch Road 12. Carnahan is currently in custody at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center.

On Dec. 16, at approximately 10 a.m., Hays County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the call to assist the North Hays Fire Department with a structure fire.

Hays County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted the Hays County Fire Marshall with the fire investigation.

During the course of extinguishing the fire, firefighters located a deceased person inside the residence, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office. The identity of the victim has not been released.

The cause of death is still undetermined pending the results of an autopsy performed by the Travis County Medical Examiners Office.

The suspicious nature of the death and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.

Currently this investigation is being led by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division with the assistance of the Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Texas Rangers.
