It is commonly said that two things are certain in life: death and taxes.
It is that time again, and county officials are urging residents to pay their 2012 property taxes by January 31 or face interest and penalties on the amount owed beginning Friday, Feb. 1.
“Even if you can’t pay your entire bill, try to pay as much as you can by January 31,” said Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway. “The penalty and interest increase each month, but with a partial payment you will be reducing the amount that accrues the penalty and interest.”
Taxes can be paid at any tax office in the county and all offices – in Buda, Dripping Springs, Kyle and San Marcos – are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, although the Kyle office is closed between 12:30-1:30 p.m. daily and the Dripping Springs office is closed from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Taxes can also be paid online at http://hayscountytax.com. If paying by postal mail, payments should be addressed to the Tax Office at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos, TX 78666 and must be postmarked by January 31 to avoid penalties and interest charges.
The Kyle tax office address is 5458 FM 2770 at Crystal Meadow Drive (Precinct 2 Office) and the Buda tax office is located at 500 Jack C. Trail.
