The Lady Lobos played a very physical game on Tuesday night, defeating Lockhart 1-0.
The first half was a dominant performance by the Lehman offense, which kept pressure in the Lady Lion’s offensive third for 40 minutes. Mariah Tamayo found the goal late in the half off of a
corner kick that was cleared back to her. The shot went over the keeper’s head into the opposite side of the goal. That would be the only score of the game, putting the Lady Lobos in the lead 1-0.
Lehman defense stepped up in the second half. Lockhart pressed as much as they could, but Madison Blok, Brandi Herrera, Alissa Tijerina, Anjelica Romero and Kim Tagle smothered every scoring drive. Lehman’s goal keeper Evelyn Martinez kept the shut out in place when a Lady Lion tried a one-on-one break away. Martinez slid into the drive and kept the ball out of the Lobo goal.
The Lady Lobos are now 4-1-1 in district play. Lehman is tied with Hays Lady Rebels for second place and is. two points behind first place Bastrop.
The second half of district play begins at Cedar Creek on Tuesday.
