The Hays High Lady Rebels look forward to their match with the Bastrop Bears every year knowing it will be an 80-minute battle.
And a battle is was last week at Memorial Stadium in Cedar Creek, as the Lady Rebels lost to Bastrop 0-1.
The Rebels started the match strong, easily moving the ball but could not penetrate the Bears’ defense enough to get a solid shot on goal. After the Bears fired in a goal during the first half, the Rebels played a strong defensive game. Junior defender Megan Blanks and senior goalkeeper Sarah Sellstrom were instrumental in keeping the Bears from adding any more points to the scoreboard.
The game ended in a 1-0 loss for the Rebels, bringing their record to 3-1-1 as they headed into Friday’s match against Giddings.
More sports later as reports come in.
