She was born on June 1, 1923 in Austin, Texas, and was the eldest daughter of John Thomas and Ruby Bonner Eskew. Ann graduated from Austin High School in 1942 and married the love of her life, the late John Howard Ayers on September 26, 1942.
Ann was proud to be an employee of the State of Texas for 33 years. She worked her way through the ranks and retired as the Administrative Assistant to the Section Head of the Planning Survey Division of the Texas Department of Transportation. Upon retirement, she subbed for many years, and in various capacities, for Hays Consolidated Independent School District.
She was proud to be a life member of the Creedmoor Chapter No. 607, Order of the Eastern Star. Ann was equally proud of being part of one of the pioneering families of Travis County, with properties being in the family for over 100 years.
Ann grew up in the Manchaca Methodist Church and has been an active member of the Kyle United Methodist Church since 1977. She loved participating in every activity held in conjunction with the church, whether it was the “Over 50” Lunch Bunch, the Fall Festival, or simply Sunday morning services.
Ann is survived by daughter Beth Lawhon and husband, Dewey, of Ponce, Puerto Rico (formerly of Kyle), Nancy Jahnsen, of Kyle, and son Tom E. Ayers and wife, Mary, of Kyle. She is also survived by grandsons Jon Claeton and Tom S. Ayers of Kyle, Chad Jahnsen of New Braunfels, granddaughters DeAnn Seider of Cedar Park, Dalice Lewis and husband Will, of Dale, and Sheri Harder, of Geronimo. Additionally, she is survived by five great-grandchildren, Ridge and Presley Brents, Elijah, Ezekiel, and Brodie Claeton, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013, at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 23, 2013, 2 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home. Immediately following, there will be a graveside service at Kyle Cemetery.
