On Thursday evening, the Lehman baseball team dropped their first game of 2013, falling 6-2 to Bryan Rudder in the Brazos Valley Invitational Baseball Tournament.
Earlier in day, a furious late rally helped the Lobos earn a tremendous 3-2 win in seven innings over Magnolia West in the team’s first contest of the tournament.
The Lobos were held scoreless for most of the contest, but eventually burst open the offensive gates in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mario Garza led off the sixth with a gigantic solo home run, which cut the Mustang lead to 2-1. Later in the inning, DJ Trejo would hit an RBI double, driving in the final two runs of Lehman’s rally, allowing the Lobos to take a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Lehman’s pitching staff equally had a stellar game, as starter Justin Penney pitched three strong innings, while Garza finished the final four, earning the win.
Lobo baseball will continue play in the Brazos Valley Baseball Tournament through Feb 23.
