For the second time this year, 80 minutes was not enough for the Lady Rebels or Lady Lobos to settle the rivalry between them.
In a back and forth, high tempo, drama filled contest, Hays and Lehman completed the second leg of their rivalry series in a 1-1 tie; the same result reached in the team’s first meeting on Jan 30.
It would be Hays’ Mila Bustos that helped the Lady Rebs jump out to an early lead. Bustos, assisted by Jessica Cruz, would slip a point-blank shot into the back of the net with 16 minutes left in the first half to give Hays a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Lehman would gain the equalizer, as the Lobos would tie the score off of a set piece. After a foul call in the 31 minute, Madison Blok would rocket a 20 yard free kick into the netting to tie the score at 1-1.
With the tie, both Hays and Lehman remain tied for second in 49-4A with a 5-1-2 record. For a full story, be sure to pick up this week’s Hays Free Press.
