On Feb. 23, the Texas State Women’s indoor Track and Field team won the 2013 Western Athletic Conference championship in Albuquerque, NM.
Helping the Bobcats claim the title was former Hays High School track athlete, current Texas State senior Kellie Trinkaus.
Trinkaus, who graduated from Hays in 2009, participated in the Women’s 4 x 400-meter relay, helping the team acquire the second best time in school history at 3:42.96. Texas State would finish third in the 4 x 400, which allowed the Texas State Women’s indoor Track and Field team to surpass UTSA for the conference title in the final event of the meet.
Additionally, she would post a personal record in the 400-meter Dash, finishing with a time of 57.16.
While at Hays, Trinkaus participated at the 2008 UIL state Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium, competing in the long jump and 400-meter relay. She also has been a part of the Texas State Track and Field team for the past three seasons, helping the women’s outdoor team compete in the 2012 NCAA regionals.
The Texas State Women’s Track and Field team will be honored during halftime of the Bobcat Men’s basketball game against Seattle University on Feb. 28.
Other local athletes that participated at the WAC indoor Track and Field championships were New Braunfels’ Logan Cunningham and Landon Ferguson. Cunningham won the Men’s pole vault, setting a new WAC record with a height of 5.53 meters.
