In a weather rescheduled game, the Lehman Lobo baseball team defeated LBJ 4-0 at Lobo Field on Tuesday night.

The Lehman pitching staff had one of their best performances thus far, as five pitchers collectively assisted in shutting out the LBJ offense.

Lobos Head Coach Toby Robinson went with multiple pitchers for a variety of reasons, “We had a long stretch during the (Brazos Valley Invitational) tournament last weekend. Our pitchers were tired, so we needed to save some arms, as well as refocus as a team. Also, we wanted everyone to get some work on the mound.”

Lehman’s offense played a big role in the win, particularly in the second inning. In the second, Lehman sent six batters to the plate, scoring two runs in the process, which was helped by a RBI double from Micah Tambur.

“(Offensively), we did a much better job of hitting the ball up the middle of the field. Also, we were not thinking as much at the plate; we were just having fun,” said Tambur.

Lehman would score two more runs in the contest, highlighted by a towering solo home run by junior right fielder Trace Gonzales in the fourth inning.

“All week in practice, I worked on keeping from swinging in front of the ball. Tonight, I stayed back and smashed the change up that was thrown,” said Gonzales.

For Robinson, maintaining success from last weekend’s Brazos Valley Invitational tournament and improving upon it was key

“Our method of hitting has come around. Our kids are not selfish, they will make contact. (In the tournament), we gained 10 or more hits in each game. We were wanting to maintain consistency on offense,” said Robinson.

With Tuesday’s win, the Lobos improve to 4-3 on the season. Lehman’s next few games will take place in the New Braunfels ISD baseball tournament from Feb 28-Mar 2. The Lobos begin district play on Mar 5 against Alamo Heights.
