STAFF REPORTS
Wind damage, power outages and fires in Buda and Kyle were prevalent Monday afternoon, as local residents took stock on damages to homes and businesses.
Wind and fire advisories were in effect, with gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
East of Kyle, an elderly couple lost a big portion of their roof off their home at 3346 Goforth Road in Kyle. The couple has no family, nor insurance. They stayed in their home through the night. The house is still in need of repair, and a community fundraiser is in the works.
In addition, Kyle firefighters struggled with windy conditions Monday while putting out a grass fire on Mathias Lane in Kyle.
A fire in Oxbow engulfed a garage. No one was home. A neighbor called the fire department, which got the flames under control.
Temporary power outages were reported and limbs broke and dropped on electric lines. Trees were reported down throughout the region. A historic tree in particular, at Kyle Cemetery, had some wind damage as a large limb was broken from what is known as the “hanging tree.”
