It was a clash of the titans on Friday evening, as the top two teams in District 27-4A squared off. Both Hays and Alamo Heights sported identical 4-0 district records going into the contest.
Hays would jump to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, aided by a monstrous two run home-run by senior designated hitter Adrian Acosta.
However, Alamo Heights’ powerful offense awoke in the fourth inning, highlighted with a two run home-run by right fielder Cameron Mineo. The Mules would score four total runs in the inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Heights’ lead endured until the sixth inning, where the Rebels took advantage of a dropped fly ball by Mules left fielder Scott Uhl. Two go-ahead runs would score, allowing the Rebels to escape with a 5-4 victory.
With this victory, the Rebels improve their district mark to 5-0, giving them sole possession of first place. For a full story, be sure to pick up this week’s edition of the Hays Free Press.
