For some reason I keep commenting on the weather. Folks, after the last couple of years of reporting the lack of rain, I welcome every drop of water that falls. This last front brought 2-1/2 to 3 inches to the community, filling all farm ponds to the brim and overflowing. Also several low water crossings were closed or should have been. No warning signs were placed on the Plum Creek Road and the creek was over the crossing and too high to cross. So the next time it rains, please be aware as you come around the curves of South Plum Creek Rd.

The first annual congregational meeting of St. John Lutheran Church was well attended. After a hearty carry in “pot luck” lunch, President George Lyons called the meeting to order. As this was the first meeting of the newly organized Lutheran Church, various committees gave reports of what had been done and needed to be accomplished. It was announced that the Men’s Fellowship were planning their bar-b-que sometime in May. The Women’s Guild will have their Harvest Festival on the first Sat. in October. Susan Janicki will head the usher list. Our thanks to Cindy Alexander for a job well done. Cindy resigned after several years of assisting ushers. New councilpersons will be installed as soon as their position is voted on. Thanks also to the hosting committee of the luncheon.

A bridal shower honoring Krislyn Schnautz, bride-elect of Michael Stephens, was held in St. John Lutheran Rec Center on Sun., Jan. 17. Guests were invited to play several games before Krislyn opened her many useful and beautiful gifts. The serving table held a delicious cake with red decorations, red roses and an assortment of nuts. Punch and coffee were also served. Hosting the event were Marian Loep, Barbara Ilse, Judy Schnautz, Sharon Heideman, Debbie Moore, Carol Schumann, Beverly Kleen and Lois Daugherty.
While the girls were enjoying the shower, Daniel Heideman, along with guest, Benny Schumann of New Braunfels, Clarence Heideman of San Marcos, Mike Moore of Kyle and Brian Heideman watched the Cowboys and the Vikings football game.
The news of the death of Mrs. Ruby Schroeder of Lockhart came too late to be included in this column last week. Ruby was a faithful reader of this column. She leaves a devoted family and many, many friends who will miss her. Sympathy is extended to her family and all who knew her. Funeral services were held Thurs., Jan. 14 at McCurdy Funeral home in Lockhart.
Seems like some kind of virus or flu has been rampant in many families’ home. Hope all are better now.
