Forty-one high-achieving Hays High School scholars joined the ranks of the campus National Honor Society chapter last week. In an evening dedicated to excellence, guest speaker Teri Eubank left the students with her long-term challenge, “Make us proud!”

Eubank, who serves as Academic Dean at Hays High School, delivered a message that was as brief as it was pointed. Referring to “The Roots of Character,” an inspirational message she displays in her office, she acknowledged the inductees’ obvious talent. “You do have it all,” she said, adding, “Now you’re going out to represent us and I challenge you, through the rest of your lives, to be the person you’re going to be proud to be.”

National Honor Society President Andrew Bishop presided over the induction ceremony, assisted by his fellow officers, Vice-President Kelly Posey, Treasurer Denise Garcia, Historian Kristen Whittington and Secretary Amber Guerra. Each lit a candle for the traditional honor society pillars – Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character.

Inductees then walked the stage to be congratulated by the officers and sponsors Scott Spiller and Kathie Gilson, receiving their official certificates of membership. The full group then recited the Honor Society Pledge.

The full list of inductees includes Ely Allen, Kyrsten Castillo, Jessica Collonetta, Kayla Cox, Nadia Dib, Kayla Fink, Bridgett Garraway, Cary Gay, Cornelia Gonzales, Melissa Granell, Jordan Hall, Jared Herselman, Jordan Jennings, Ashlee Johnson, Samantha Kalb, Ashley Keegan, Isabella Key, Erin Korzeniewski, Cassandra Martinez, Marissa McCann, Selena McCurley, Alaina McFadden, Katy Mendoza, Emily Mitchell, Amanada Pettit, Rachel Pitts, Kyle Pollard, Gabrielle Randazzo, Sarah Reyes, Stephanie Segovia, Dylan Sullivan, Patricia Swanson, Cristina Tenney, Hannah Thompson, Alexandra Trowbridge, Chaney Turney, Stephen Wenzel, Sarah Wilson, Emily Ybarbo and Suzana Zukanovic.
