Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Lewis Petrosky (Melinda) of Lockhart, who passed away. Melinda was a member of Trinity United Church of Niederwald. The confirmation class of 1939 consisted of members of Trinity and then St. John United Church, including Melinda Homan. Many of us will always remember her friendly smile and greeting.

The city of Uhland has received a federal grant of $20,030 for improvements to the Community Center. Various ideas for improvements are being studied for the use of the grant. There is another grant of $250,000 for improvement of the water distribution system. The water line along Old Spanish Trail from Cotton Gin Road north to the intersection of Rocky Road will be improved and/or replaced. The construction will begin or is planned to begin this spring and completed by the end of the year. Some congestion and traffic hazards will be experienced so be careful and patient as they do their job to improve the water system.

Gladys Sorrells spent a couple of weeks in Dallas, a guest of her niece, Diann Garonzik and husband Lynn. While there she attended her great nephew Mark Kelly’s cub scout pine car derby. Mark won a prize for his “homemade” car. Gladys also enjoyed going to two movies. She recently had eye surgery and is doing well after her R&R.

Speaking of eye surgery, Linda Leop had a cornea transplant. She is doing well and we send her our good wishes.
