Cardinal Cross Country Run & Health Fair
The event is scheduled for April 13 at Santa Cruz Catholic School in Buda and will include a 1K kids’ race at 7:45 a.m. and a 5K run/walk at 8:15 a.m., which will take participants through Historic Stagecoach Park. A Health Fair is also scheduled from 8-11 a.m. that will feature community service providers as well as local vendors, a free health screening, bounce houses, face painting and entertainment. Participants may register at the school or online at www.healthfair.sccstx.org through April 13.
Prevent a Litter of Central Texas (PALS) will hold a garage sale and bake sale to raise funds for the animals. A variety of household items and other treasures will be on sale at great bargains. There will also be baked goods including pies, cakes, cookies, or candy. The sale, which is part of a larger neighborhood-wide garage sale, will take place beginning at 7 a.m. April 6 at 505 Alabama Street, San Marcos.
Let’s go fly a kite, up to the highest height, when the Kyle Flea Market’s 80 vendors host their second annual Kite Flying Day. Come fly your kite and enjoy a day of community fun including free face painting and free hot dogs for the first 300 people. Event takes place starting at 11 a.m. March 23 at the Kyle Flea Market, 1119 N. Old Hwy 81.
Beginning this weekend, area residents will have another farmer’s market option. Sustainacycle, at the recently opened Sustainable Living Center, will operate a farmer’s market on the third Saturday of the month through July, then again in Sept. Eight vendors have signed up so far. The market will be open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., March 16, at 409 West Center Street in Kyle.
San Marcos’ own Heart of Texas (H.O.T.) Chorus will celebrate its 19th birthday with performances by the chorus and top-rated quartet, Sterling, an audience sing along, refreshments and a H.O.T. birthday cake. Another reason for celebration – the chorus competed against groups from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, earning the right to advance to the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Quartet and Chorus Contest next July in Toronto. There, they will compete with choruses from around the globe, in what has been called the World Series of barbershop harmony singing. This will be the chorus’ ninth trip to the International Contest stage. Join the party at 7 p.m. March 7 in Room 222 of the Texas State University Music Building.
Color for the Cause, a 5K run to support Hays County Boys and Girls Clubs, will take place at 10 a.m. March 2 at The Heights II apartment complex in San Marcos. Event organizers hope to raise $25,000; all proceeds will be donated to local Boys and Girls Clubs. Post race entertainment includes a concert by William Clark Green, No Dry County, Dillon Myers and others, a winners ceremony, raffles and refreshments. The Kyle Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (KCPA3) will be sponsoring a law enforcement documentary, Heroes Behind the Badge. It showcases the lives of seven officers (four fallen, three survivors) and provides a real-life observation of law enforcement life including the decisions made daily and the impact of those decisions. Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $15 at-the-door. Fifty percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Evans Auditorium on the campus of Texas State University.
Join the Buda Chamber of Commerce and the Onion Creek Senior Citizen Center for the ribbon cutting ceremony for their new location at 420 Barton’s Crossing in Buda. The event takes place at 11:30 a.m. this Thursday, Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
