Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and was able to be with families to join in giving “thanks” for the many blessings we have been given. Even though many of us are experiencing some uncertain times, let’s all pray and hope that all will be all right.

Thanks for making Harvest Festival great

Thanks for making Harvest Festival great

The weather was just right to help make the Harvest Festival a success. A large crowd of friends and neighbors from surrounding neighborhoods came to enjoy the turkey and dressing meal, purchase homemade bread, cakes and cookies, plants and other items from the country store and vendors that were set up in the Community Center; and also, folks enjoyed various games. The best was the fellowship and greetings of friends and even relatives. Members of St. John not only worked hard, but also enjoyed the comradeship while doing their jobs. Thanks to all who worked, donated and planned the event and to those who attended. Winners of the drawings are as follows: quilt, J. Gill; $124 Bon Ton Meat Package, Debbie Schawe; $100 donated by St. John Women’s Guild, Rosalina Pena; $50 gift card donated by HEB, Jack Powell; box of cold sausage donated by Chisholm Trail Bar-B-Que, Alton Petrosky; Sports Pack (two chairs, 16 qt. ice chest and flashlight) donated by Guadalupe Gas Co., Laura Wiede. Again, thanks to all who donated.

What? October already! Where did the year go? Good to have rain and cool weather at last, but not the rain on a football night, right?

Uhland’s Harvest Festival set for Oct. 6

Uhland’s Harvest Festival set for Oct. 6

Aah, country living! There’s nothing like it. The other morning, I looked out my kitchen window and what did I see? A flock of nine turkeys trotting across the front yard, chasing bugs and each other. I also have a family of raccoons – a huge female and two beautiful half grown pups that come to the front door every night for handouts.

The pitter patter of raindrops and other good news

Nothing sounds better than the pitter patter of raindrops falling on the roof during a drought. So it was this past week. Some three to four inches fell in the community during the rainy spell, for which we are grateful.
