As in years past, Hope Palacios is always on the starting line for the annual Capitol 10,000 race in Austin and last Sunday was no exception for the 77-year-old Buda resident. Palacios, who serves as a great role model for all senior citizens, crossed the finish line with a time of 1:36:02 giving her 5th place in the age division of 75-79. On the younger side, Jazmyn Uresti of Buda earned a 1st place ribbon in the age bracket of 16-19. Her time was clocked at 46:44. Congratulations to both ladies.
Got your wiener dog in training? The 16th annual Buda Lions Club Country Fair and Weiner Dog Races will take over the town for the big two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28 in Buda City Park. The theme this year is “Les Weinerables.” In addition to the fun dog races, there will be the pet parade, arts and crafts, and cook offs, entertainment, food and drinks and fun family time for all.
On Saturday, April 13, the doors of Buda Elementary School will open at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium and it will become the old Buda High School for a day.
Hurry over to Buda Grocery & Grill for that great hamburger before April 1! This is not an April Fool’s joke, the announcement was made this week that the building has been sold to investors and therefore the fire will go out on the grill. If you missed the 30th annual membership meeting, auctions and lunch last Thursday at the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center, you missed the best event in town!
“GOLD, heck yes we won GOLD,” so says Coach Scott Cary. The Marbridge Longhorns are the Special Olympics, Central Texas Basketball Regional Champions, Division 4, and the highest division. According to Judge Cary, “they beat a very good Austin Parks and Rec team” for the Gold Medal in a two-day, four-game tournaments at Texas State in San Marcos.
For 30 years the members of Onion Creek Senior Citizens, Inc., have gathered in March for an annual membership meeting and again this year they will meet on Thursday, March 7 in the wonderful new senior center. The business meeting will start at 9 a.m., in which three members will be elected to serve on the board of directors for three-year terms. Also on the ballot is an amendment to the by-laws changing the membership meeting from the second Thursday in March to the first Thursday in March.
We had a beautiful day last Thursday for the ribbon cutting and lunch at the new Onion Creek Senior Center in Buda. Our thanks to all who attended and to all the wonderful volunteers who helped with the event. Thanks also to the Buda/Kyle Girl Scouts for the Valentine decorations, cards, balloons and the cookies.
The day we have been waiting for is finally here… the ribbon cutting for the beautiful new Onion Creek Senior Center in Buda will be Thursday, Feb. 14 at 11:30 a.m. A noon lunch will be available for $4. The center is located at 420 Bartons Crossing, just off FM 2770. Ya’ll come!
