Beverly Nance, 92, a former University of Texas Professor of Mathematics, died May 13. Graveside services will be held at the Kyle Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 18, with the Reverend Harold Dailey, Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Nance was born on Sept. 29, 1914 in Palacios, Texas as the second son of Jeremiah Milton and Mary Louise (Hutchison) Nance.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Lee Spence, of Urbana, Ill.; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Margaret; and five brothers, Milton, Frank, Roger, Elmo and Jerry.
Mr. Nance spent his boyhood in Kyle, attended the University of Texas, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and with both the B.A. and M.A. Degrees in Mathematics. His whole teaching career, from 1938 to 1970, was at the University of Texas, Austin, from which he had leaves for army service in World War II, and additional graduate study at Oregon State University, Corvallis. His military service, beginning as a private and ending as a lieutenant, took him to Australia, New Guinea, Guam, and the Philippines. A quiet, generous man, he had spent his time in retirement taking care of family members and property and in hunting and fishing.
