Johnny Gruenbein, life-long resident of Kyle, Texas, passed away in San Marcos, Texas, on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at the age of 89. The son of the late Fritz and Meta Gruenbein, he was born July 31, 1919, in Kyle, Texas.
Johnny served in WWII as a Sergeant in the Pacific and he was a retired member of the Kyle Volunteer Fire Department. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Johnny was someone who was there for anyone when they needed him. He will be dearly missed by all.
His wife, Betty Gruenbein, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, John Gruenbein, Jr. and wife, Cynthia, of Kyle; and Dennis Gruenbein of Austin; and grandsons, Travis and Justin.
Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Kyle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold Dailey officiating. Interment will follow at the Kyle Cemetery.
