An Austin motorcyclist was struck and killed by a gravel truck last Wednesday afternoon in an accident that emergency responders on the scene described as “horrific.”
Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) say James Richard Parker, 43, was riding his motorcycle southbound on the IH-35 access road at about 2:30 p.m. and stopped at the red light at FM 2001 in front of a gravel truck driven by Kyle resident Charles Llano.
When the light turned green, investigators say the gravel truck apparently accelerated into the Parker, dragging the motorcycle through the intersection and fatally wounding the rider. Witnesses on the scene told investigators that they had to flag down the truck driver to get him to stop.
Parker was pronounced dead on the scene.
DPS officials said possible charges may be filed against Llano.
