Hays County Judge Liz Sumter has signed an emergency order reinstating the burn ban Tuesday, prohibiting any outdoor burning, a news release said.
The ban had been lifted when rain made it safe to allow residents to burn. However, recent dry conditions have made it necessary to fall back into the ban, the release said.
This has not impacted the right to light fireworks for Independence Day.
“At this time there is no prohibition on fireworks in Hays County during the Fourth of July holiday,” said Hays County spokesperson Laureen Chernow.
She added that the county judge could always issue an emergency order to change these rules. Most area municipalities prohibit fireworks within city limits.
