Car burglars targeted the Cullen Country subdivision off RM 967 in Buda this weekend, hitting seven vehicles over a two-day span.
Hays County has seen an uptick in the number of car break-ins this year. In the vast majority of cases the thieves pick the easy targets, stealing from unlocked vehicles with valuables left in plain sight. Frequently, several cars in the same street or subdivision are burglarized on the same night.
Cullen Country residents began reporting the burglaries Saturday at about 8:30 a.m. Investigators believe the first four burglaries took place in the early hours of June 20 after 1 a.m. Streets targeted include Clarence Ct., Cullen Blvd., Salle Ave. and Maribel Lane.
The next day, residents reported three more car break-ins, with two occurring on Hartkopf St. and another on Cullen Blvd. Buda Patrol Chief Bo Kidd said those crimes appeared to take place early Sunday morning.
“We do believe it did happen on two different days,” Kidd said.
Items stolen included a GPS system, a radar detector, jewelry, a watch and cameras. Investigators have no workable leads at this time.
This is the first string of vehicle burglaries reported in the Cullen Country subdivision. Other neighborhoods such as Creekside, Bradfield Village and Shadow Creek have seen similar crime sprees.
