Mountain City Montage
by PAULINE TOM
Nancy Waddell sends word to all Mountain Cityians who paw’sd to help PAWS:
Whew! After making seven trips to PAWS with the car/truck loaded down – we ended up donating over 700 lbs of cat and dog food and over 250 lbs of litter and way too many “extras” to even mention. Many thanks go out to everyone who donated (and still donated after the drop off sight closed). The PAWS peeps were very, very grateful (even though the dog behind the counter tried to eat Rick–apparently hates men). It makes me so proud to be a part of our “little town” that does so much good for this community.
Bless you all.
Nancy Waddell
P.S. Thank goodness no one was around to witness the only disaster of the pet drive. I reached in to pick up a 50 lb bag of dog food and it all fell out of the bottom of the bag. I got a good laugh after I scooped it up…..in the pouring rain!
Thanks, Nancy, for the scoop.

Now! Scoop on the nearby ultimate Texas bed and breakfast inn for romantic getaways. Beth Smith’s Facebook shows that she’s a friend of “Inn Above Onion Creek.” Facebook friendship brings word of last minute special deals.
Toalson is one of their 12 luxurious rooms in the rustic setting (designed to resemble a late 1800’s Texas homestead.) Their tubs for two and featherbeds float The Inn to the top of my list of favorites.
By the way, let me say what I meant to say back in December. The Kuykendall Suite wears the “most romantic” crown.
Toalson and Kuykendall. Know those names? They were ranchers (along with Nance) during the busiest time for the railroad for Kyle, between 1910 and 1940. At times, ranchers would order as many as 50 cars to ship their livestock. Earnest Toalson lived in Kyle and rode out each day (across future Plum Creek subdivision lots) to his ranch, near Inn Above Onion Creek. He ordered his first wife by mail.

Now’s the time to pick up a good buy on “Old Mountain City.” Often this out-of-print book sells for over $100. Last week, about the time I became of Facebook Friend of Inn Above Onion Creek, alibris.com sent notification of two copies available for less than $30. Also available through amazon.com
