San Marcos police are still on the hunt for two pedophiles who have been missing since police officers did a sweep of registered sex offenders in the city in late March.
Patrick Merworth, 19, and Billy Joe Crayton, 25, who both hold San Marcos addresses, have not properly informed local law enforcement of their whereabouts and warrants for their arrests have been issued, police say.
“These two guys disappeared and we don’t know where they went,” San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams said. “We simply have no idea where they are and that is a criminal violation.”
State law requires sex offenders to register when they move into an area and notify police when they leave. As of Tuesday, police have not been notified of any new addresses for Merworth and Crayton.
Merworth is described as a white male, 5 feet tall and 110 pounds. His offense was an aggravated sexual assault with a 3-year-old girl, with a disposition date in 2004. Crayton is described as a black male, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 265 pounds. His offense was also an aggravated sexual assault with a 3-year-old girl, with a disposition date in 1999, according to Department of Public Safety criminal records.
If anyone knows where Merworth or Crayton are located, they are asked to contact San Marcos police at 512-753-2108.
Failing to register as a sex offender is a state jail felony punishable by confinement in a state jail from 180 days to two years and a fine up to $10,000, Williams said.
