Mabel L. Van Doren, 80, of Kyle peacefully passed away on April 12, 2010. She was born on June 1, 1929 in Springfield, TN to Rayburn and Maudye Whittaker Grant.
A long time resident of Peoria, IL., she managed the Towne House Motel on Knoxville Ave. in Peroria until her retirement in 1979. After her retirement she spent the next 20 years traveling the U.S. with her husband and best friend, Cliff. After their travels, they settled in Kyle to be close to family. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and board games and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves. Mabel was a member of First United Methodist Church of Franklin, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother and two stepsons.
Mabel is survived by her husband Clifford P. Van Doren, of Kyle; sister Sue Price of LaFayette, IN, sister Bettye Violette of Winchester, VA, brother Glenn Grant of Hendersonville, TN, sister-in-law Jean Van Doren of Roseville, MN, son and daughter-in-law John and Cindy Lovelace of Kyle, daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Steve Dorsey of Bloomington, IL, son and daughter-in-law James and Teresa Lovelace of East Peoria, IL, daughter-in-law Jackie Van Doren of Parker, CO, daughter-in-law Maria Walker of Warrensburg, IL, stepdaughter Martha Donaldson of Edwardsville, IL; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Kyle United Methodist Church. The Reverend Barbara Azia will officiate.
