Buda Elementary School and its Kids Care Club recently showed compassion for those in need in a fun and novel manner: the kids played games for an hour one day after school! Kids asked family members and neighbors to sponsor them for playing. Kids, families and staff members then gave donations to help Haiti through an organization called SOS Children’s Villages.
The Hasbro Toy Company helped, too, by donating games to the club, so there was plenty to do. Thanks to the help of Coach Glendenning and Coach Espinoza, kids also got to play soccer and four square in the gym.
Third-grader Karlene Armstrong’s favorite game was Connect Four. She thought the Playathon was a good idea and was glad the toy company donated the games. Taylor Cooper, another third-grader, raised $14 by going around her neighborhood collecting for what she called “a good cause and a lot of fun.”
Fifth-grader Bryce Moseley’s favorite game was Battleship. He said the Playathon was “worth it to save Haiti. It was better than sitting around for an hour doing nothing.”
The Kids Care Club raised $400, which was sent to Haiti. The club has been active with caring projects all year and is happy that playing was a way to help Haiti.
