Under bright springtime skies at the Mandola Winery’s Trattoria Lisina last Friday, the Hays Education Foundation honored 21 of the district’s brightest and most dedicated educators as 2010 Teachers of the Year.
Barton Middle School’s Sara Salvitti was announced as the district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year and Hemphill Elementary’s Michelle Reid was announced as the district’s Elementary Teacher of the Year. Salvitti and Reid advance to compete for Region 13 honors later this year.
Additionally, Kyle Elementary Assistant Principal Ann Conlee was recognized for her recently-awarded honor as Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisory Association Region 13 Assistant Principal of the Year.
In remarks to the appreciative educators, Superintendent Jeremy Lyon spoke of the gathered crowd and their peers. Hays High freshman Arianna Martinez sang about teachers, and Lehman High senior Meera Day gave a speech expressing her appreciation for the teachers who helped her achieve her scholastic dreams.
Finally, the Education Foundation presented each campus teacher of the year an engraved glass bowl and bouquet to celebrate the day.
