Wimberley area resident David Companie is in the Hays County Jail facing manslaughter charges after he allegedly ran over and killed Wimberley resident Kelly Cabler last Thursday.
Investigators say Cabler, 45, was found lying at the intersection of Camino Ashley and Days End Road at about 5 p.m. on May 13, suffering from severe injuries. She was transported by Star Flight helicopter to Brackenridge Hospital, where she died a short time later.
The next morning, a Hays County deputy spotted Companie in the gold Nissan Pathfinder that he had allegedly used to run over Cabler. He was arrested without incident.
Hays County spokesperson Leroy Opiela said Cabler and Companie knew each other, but could not say if they were romantically involved.
Companie remains in custody on a $175,000 bond, facing second degree felony charges of manslaughter.
Companie had two previous assault charges from 1997 and November of 2009, and DWI charges from 1988 and February of this year.
In the most recent assault charge, Companie’s girlfriend told investigators that after having several drinks before lunch at the Embassy Suite Hotel in San Marcos, the couple was driving to River Pub and Grill. The woman told police officers that she had recently cashed her $900 social security check, and Companie grabbed the money from the center console of the car and would not return it to her. She said Companie then grabbed her by the arm and punched her in the face, leaving bruises on her arm and face. That case is currently pending.
