STAFF REPORT
The Hays County Pct. 2 office in Kyle is a collection point for a summer fan drive to accept donations of new fans and air conditioner window units for low income and elderly residents.
Family Eldercare, an Austin-based nonprofit group, is asking for donations of 20-inch box fans and 12-inch or larger oscillating fans. A cash donation can be made at familyeldercare.org.
The fans can be dropped off at the precinct office, 111 N. Front Street; the Driftwood Fire Department, the Dripping Springs Fire Department and any of San Marcos’ four fire stations.
Last year the drive distributed more than 6,200 fans and 55 air conditioners to more than 3,700 households in Central Texas.
Low-income families often face the summer without air conditioning due to the high cost of equipment, repairs and utilities. Fans help them safeguard against heat-related illness.
People who need a fan can make an appointment to apply through the San Marcos Housing Authority by calling 512-396-3364 or Family Eldercare at 512-459-4326. Photo identification and proof of income are required.
