Jesus R. Canales, Jr., 61, of Kyle died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. David’s Hospital in Austin. He was born in Austin on September 6, 1948. His loving father, Jesus A. Canales, Sr. and mother Maria De La Luz Requejo precede him in death. Jesus is survived by wife Belinda Canales of Kyle; two daughters, Alicia Thomason and husband Tommy Thomason and Olivia Canales; grandchildren Brianna, Serena, Cristina, Issac, Noah, Lillianna and Nathan; sister Mary Canales and brother Chris Canales; nephews Rudy and Chris Cardenas and family.
Jesus served during the Vietnam War in the Army, Company A 1st Plt. 4th Bn 1st Bde after which he came back to Austin after serving his country. Jesus worked for the City of Austin Police Vehicle Department for 20 years and after retirement started his second career with Cardinal Health working over 17 years. Jesus was an active classic car enthusiast and his passion was restoring old cars and attending classic car shows as a family affair. Jesus was a loving and giving person who never met a stranger. His family and friends will miss Jesus.
Visitation and a small mass was held Friday, June 4, at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle.
Jesus fought a hard battle with diabetes. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of St. David’s Hospital who attended to Jesus and the needs of the family during these trying times.
