Bob Wygant took first place honors at the Texas Hold ‘em Poker Showdown on Sunday at the Onion Creek Senior Center in Buda. Coming in second was Tracy Papke, followed by Lucio Alverez in third place, Jim Stavlo (4th), Jesse Logan (5th), Patsy Allen (6th), M. M. Savalia (7th) and Pat Nixon taking 8th place.

The Onion Creek Senior Citizens thanks the Buda Lions Club for sponsoring the tournament. Also, thanks goes out to table sponsors: Austin Telco Federal Credit Union, First State Bank Central Texas, Great Locations Realty, John and JoAnn Keller, Kwik Kar, Texas Lehigh Cement Co., United Heritage Credit Union and WoodForest Bank. All proceeds benefit the building fund for the Buda senior citizens. A big “thank you” to Richard Harlow for the many hours of work in putting the tournament together and to all the folks who played, donated prizes or in some way contributed to making the day such a great success.

Twin daughters were born in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 22, to Colby and Allison Eckols of Austin. The girls both weigh a little less than two pounds and have been named Lilly Mae and Addison Rose. The babies are the grandchildren of Shelby and Nica Eckols of Buda and the great-grand daughters of Edith Eckols of Driftwood.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, June 24, a fire was discovered in a boat parked in the carport of Matt Owens’ house on Cedar Street in Buda. The boat was a total loss and much of the carport was burned, as well as parts of the house. Thankfully no one was injured and the boat, as well as the house, was covered by insurance.

Sympathy is extended to Delton and Cindi Hudson and family on the loss of Delton’s dad, W. A. “Cotton” Hudson. Mr. Hudson passed away on June 22 at the age of 80.
On a happier note, we wish Delton and Cindi Hudson a “happy anniversary” on July 2. The couple has been married for 33 years.

Come downtown Buda on Thursday, July 1 for the monthly “First Thursday” event and enjoy shopping along Main Street and eating at the various restaurants. As an added attraction, the Gearheads will have classic cars on display at the old post office parking lot.
